Optimizing the Development of Power Generation to Increase the Utilization of Renewable Energy Sources

The electric power system is critical to supporting the economic growth of a country. On other hand, growing concern about environment in recent years has pushed many countries create strategies minimize greenhouse gas emissions by increasing proportion new and renewable energy (NRE) sources. In Indonesia, Java-Bali grid most extensive electricity system, with demand 177,692.43 GWh peak load 40,059.74 MW 2019. However, mix dominated coal at 70%, followed natural 21.22%, 7.71%, fuel 0.14%. Therefore, there an urgent need increase use NRE sources fulfilling electrical demand, government setting utilization target 23% 2025 31% 2050. This study aims power-generating capacity development planning scenario best lowest cost, support Indonesian policymakers obtaining those targets. Balmoral model General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) programming was used optimize for generating capacity. results show that total additional 15,035 optimal estimated investment cost IDR 901 trillion. Furthermore, this can composition 16.95% next ten years.
